About the Book
Environmental monitoring describes the processes and activities that need to take place to characterize, monitor the quality of the environment and tool to assess environmental conditions with trends to support policy development and its implementation. Environmental monitoring is used in the preparation of environmental impact assessments, as well as in many circumstances in which human activities carry a risk of harmful effects on the natural environment.
The current rate and scale of environmental change around the world makes the detection and understanding of these changes increasingly urgent. If environmental monitoring is not carried out in a deep and exacting scientific manner, then it is likely that no action will be taken when it is needed for lack of firm evidence.
Environmental Monitoring: Approaches and Perspectives book bring together the conceptual basis behind all monitoring activities with specific approaches to the monitoring of environmental components like air, water, and land. Coverage includes integrated monitoring at the landscape level, as well as case studies of existing monitoring programs. The book focuses on various approaches and perspectives for environment monitoring using various tools and techniques including remote sensing, GIS and Nanotechnology. This book is an integrated, hands-on resource for monitoring many aspects of the environment.
This book includes 20 chapters, starting with a discussion of assessment of surface water quality with respect to heavy metal, effects of land use land cover change on soil erosion rate, international environmental laws and crucial environmental management tools including lifecycle, environmental impact, and environmental risk assessments. Book summerises the scientific and technological aspect of environment monitoring by using advanced approaches, tools and techniques. Inflow of the chapters has been restricted pertaining to quality and standards of scientific documents in order to conceive the selected articles meeting the criterion of scientific publications.
This book will serve as an authoritative reference for advanced students and environmental professionals.
